StructureOfTheSession

Basically, apart from the introduction at the beginning and the feedback circle at the end the workshop was structured into two halves - divided by a break. In the each half the participants could choose between three workstations:

  • Technical Tools
  • Interpersonal Tools
  • Mindsets

The groups of participants resulted from each participant's choice of workstations.

Since quite a few studies say that individual brainstorming is the most effective and because the goal was to collect individual people's tools the participants spent the first minutes brainstorming on tools they use. After this they spent time alone filling in the questions (when appropriate) for each tool.

I used the following templates - I was inspired by the pattern community (e.g. Europlop) and the questions asked when mining for patterns and shepherding papers for the structure and the questions.

The main part of the workshop the participants divided

  1. Introduction
  2. First workstation
  a) fill in forms alone
  b) share tools with a member of the group and try to give feedback on them
  1. each group shares the results to the group
  2. break
  3. second workstation
  a) fill in forms alone
  b) share tools with a member of the group and try to give feedback on them
  1. each group shares the results to the group
  2. Feedback on the session

I had been planning to spend some time after break to collect problems participants brought to the session where they were hoping to find tools for. Because of time reasons I left that out - but I got the feedback that this would have been an important part of the workshop... so next time ;-)
