Joshua Bloch is a Senior Staff Engineer at Sun Microsystems, where he is an architect in the Core Java Platform Group. He wrote the Jolt-award winning book <i>Effective Java</i> (Addison-Wesley, 2001). He led the design and implementation of the award-winning Java Collections Framework, java.math, java.util.prefs, and assertions, and contributed to other parts of the Java platform. He currently leads one JCP expert group, JSR-175 (Metadata), and co-leads another, JSR-201 (Assorted Language Enhancements). Previously he was a Senior Systems Designer at Transarc Corporation, where he designed and implemented many parts of the Encina distributed transaction processing system. He holds a Ph.D. from Carnegie-Mellon University and a B.S. from Columbia.
