Use this page to discuss or comment on the OT2001 session, Extreme Programming in the Real World. This discussion relates to the OT2001 session XpInTheRealWorld

In addition, we would like to continue the discussion about XP in the Real World, so I've listed here some of the other problems that were generated in the practice sessions but weren't discussed (because we asked each group to only consider one or two for their short presentations).

  • Links to / integration with non-XP code
  • Competition from other (new) techniques
  • Conflict with Corporate development standards
  • Temptation to cherry pick XP techniques
  • Need to integrate with existing (proven) working methods
  • Relating XP to other roles (not just O-O)
  • What happens to specialist roles? (business analyst, technical architect, etc..)
  • Difficult to sell post-implementation benefits of XP
  • Pair programming seen as expensive
  • Developers talking to Users!
  • Experimental Technology v/s Short Timescales
