SPA Conference session: Show-and-Tell: things that inspire our designs

One-line description:Lightning talks in which participants show something that inspires or informs their software designs and explain why

Session format: Something entirely original [read about the different session types]

Abstract:The aim of the talks is to share how software designers think about design. It will be run as a "show-and-tell" exercise. Participants each give a 5-minute lightning talk in which they show one item and explain how it inspires, informs, influences, illustrates or otherwise gives insight into how they design software. The item may be a physical object, a building, place, artwork, film, music piece ... anything. Being a "show and tell" session, participants must bring their item to show, if possible. Or they can bring a photo, reproduction or digital excerpt of their item on a laptop.

The facilitator(s) will strictly limit the time of each talk to 5 minutes max and ensure that talks follow on quick succession.

Audience background:Speakers need some experience in software design. No particular requirements for non-speakers. But the more people who speak the better.

Benefits of participating:Audience: see different perspectives on how people think about the design of software.

Speaker: be pretentious about software design in a safe environment.
