SPA Conference session: Becoming an Indie Developer

One-line description:Could you make money while you sleep?

Session format: Goldfish bowl (75 mins) [read about the different session types]

Abstract:After Duncan was forcibly ejected from his last contract, he thought it would be fun to burn money by producing his own product. The plan was to invest money that would otherwise have been poured down a pension into something that would bring in a nice income for a few years, and in the process to learn about the economics of software products. At the time of this proposal it's too soon to say whether he has succeeded or not, but he has learnt a lot.

Rob too has had experience in betting the farm on producing a product, although he did it the hard way, before the Internet let the world beat a path to your door. You can draw your own conclusions about how successful he has been from the number of flunkies that orbit him, hanging on his every word and making the path of his life smooth.

In this session we will present a brief case study of our experiences before launching into a Goldfish Bowl to allow all participants to contribute answers to questions like:

* If I'm so smart should I put my money where my mouth is?
* Idea v Execution
* Is the world large enough for there to be a market for everything?
* Solo v Partnership v Company
* Bootstrapping v Investment
