Bernard Hurley Since the establishment of the Free Software Foundation in 1984, there has been steady increase in the quality, quantity and range of application of Open Source software. Many Open Source products are widely thought to be technically comparable to or better than their proprietary equivalents. Valtech uses and writes Open Source software in its Training, Consulting and R&D activities. However certain legal, ethical and practical issues arise from this use.
This presentation consists of an overview of the use of Open Source software in the Valtech organisation, the rationale, advantages and problems that arise.
