[OT2002] [Programme] [Organisation]

BOF Sessions
"Birds of a feather" sessions are meetings that you organise, at the conference, about topics that you want to discuss or find out about.

The OT conferences are especially effective at exchanging skills between all the participants --- not just from lecturers to audience. BOF sessions are an important and popular mechanism for this.

How do I set up a BOF?

Several slots are available for BOFs on each day of the programme. There will be a noticeboard on which to propose BOFs; interested colleagues will sign up for your BOFs; the organisers will assign rooms.

Start now!

The conference Discussion Forum is open. In the Forum, you can create and add to pages interactively. Set up a discussion topic, and get the discussion going ahead of the conference --- that way, you'll make the most of the time when you meet.

How do I run a BOF?

Any way you like. If there are just a few participants, have a chat in the bar. If there are more, start by outlining your thoughts or questions, and then let others contribute. Begin by clarifying the general topic, and a list of areas to deal with.

Some of us are more familiar with organising meetings than others, especially if you find you have a lot of participants. The conference panel will be very happy to offer assistance or ideas on how to structure your BOF.

Why would I run a BOF?

This is your opportunity to get the conference to:
  • Discuss a technique, tool, or pattern
  • Get a reaction to that wacky idea you had in the bath
  • Tell you where to find ..., how to do ..., who knows about ...
  • Share your fears, doubts and problems
  • Get a job
  • Hatch a new project
  • Answer all the questions you never dared to ask
