Adaptive Systems Architecture

Tutorial 75 minutes

Breaking the re-engineering cycle

David Morris

Kevin Perera

Why are so many software projects reengineering existing systems? How can we build applications that last? Why do so many software projects fail to meet their requirements in an acceptable timeframe?

This tutorial investigates the basics of these issues and seeks to address them via an adaptive systems approach. In this approach we seek to employ an effective componentisation of business and infrastructural services in support of business process oriented applications. The role of architecture in delivery-focused organisations is also discussed, along with the value proposition of reusable components, proposing the use of mutable, disposable infrastructure services.
