What the participants learned

---

What the session organizers learned:

Parallel development earns more points, but takes longer

Usually, the team performs each "story" sequentially, in the order defined during planning. This is because:

  • It's simpler, easier to follow and easier to do acceptance tests
  • We want the players to work as ONE team, involved in every story
  • You should implement stories ordered by customer value, not ordered by technical reasons
  • It results in more consistent velocity numbers, not influenced by the (in)ability to schedule two gotomeeting stories to be executed in parallel.

We discovered one more reason:

  • The iteration takes longer when you do more than one story at a time. Parallel development requires a lot more thought and coordination upfront. This time is not measured in the game. Although the players and cv writers[ 1] earn more points per game time, they take longer in real time.

There are better ways to build a house of cards

Instead of building houses with two cards standing on their short edge, one of the teams innovated by using three cards standing on their long edge (see the photos to see what I mean). This way it is possible to build a four-story house http://www.usfreeads.com/2359376-cls.html of cards.

I still think you should not be allowed to use blue-tack to build houses!
