Prior to founding the Object Forge in 1996, Allan worked for 15 years as Technical Director of Helitune. He and a number of others formed Helitune to design, develop, and build the world's first production RTB (Rotor Track & Balance) equioment for helicopters. The software for this product was produced using MASCOT and Allan wrote URSA, the system's MASCOT kernel.

Since leaving Helitune Allan has been freelance and worked in a number of areas ranging from undestructive testing to the design and development of systems for the insurance industry. The MOJO development sprang from a belief that the issues associated with real-time/multi-threaded systems were not being well addressed by community at large. Having used MASCOT to good effect at Helitune, MOJO retains MASCOT's essential simplicity and adds a number of features specifically related to OO systems.
