Abstract | Studies during the 1970's at the Administrative Staff College, Henley, showed how teams composed of the brightest people were rarely the most effective.
R Meredith Belbin's seminal research on this phenomenon led to the identification of team roles. These roles, such as Coordinator, Team Worker and Resource Investigator, were shown to be necessary to the efficient functioning of teams. The session will introduce team roles and their applicability to software development.
Audience | An interest in development methods, teams and their pyschology.
Benefits | Participants will gain an insight into the roles required in a successful team, how these relate to software development, and what part they personally prefer to play.
The community will gain data on the distribution of team roles amongst the participants.

I've been programming for longer than I care to admit starting with the PDP-11 and moving on from there.
Despite being an engineer at heart, I still see programming as a craft skill with a heavy dependence on personal interaction.
